Is a spice from the fruit of an evergreen shrub in the Magnolia family, indigenous to China and Vietnam. This star-shaped seed pod averages five points and has one pea seed in each cozy pod. Before it is ripe, the pod is picked and sun dried which creates its rich rust color. The flavor profile of Star Anise is reminiscent of Licorice. Both the seed and pod contain its wonderfully unique flavor which allows for both to be useful in the creation of any dish.
